OERTEL, Johann Adam S. (1823-1909), born in Fürth, Bavaria, studied painting and engraving
in Munich. Emigrated to the United States in 1848, settled in Newark, and New Jersey. Worked his way by teaching drawing, painted portraits, engraved banknotes and designed ceiling decorations for the House
of Representatives in Washington (1857-1858). In 1871 be became an Episcopal priest. |
