NIEMEYER, John Henry (1839-1932), born in Bremen, was brought to America in 1843, grew up
in Cincinnati. Studied painting of portraits and figure. In 1860 in NewYork, 1866-70 in Paris. Was appointed professor of drawing at Yale University in 1871 until 1908. Several important American
artists were his pupils, among them Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Frederick Remington. |
