NAHL, Charles Christian (1818-1878), born in Kassel, immigrated to United States in
1849. Worked with his half-brother Hugo Nahl in the gold fields during the California Goldrush. Soon the two artists resumed their profession and produced some of the most important images relating to early
West Coast life. The Nahl brothers established a studio in San Francisco, but besides producing paintings and engravings they worked as photographers and commercial artists. |
