MAENTEL, Dr. Jacob (1763-1863), born in Kassel. Maentel was trained as a
physician. It was said of him that he served as a Secretary to Napoleon. This possibly explains his coming to America in the 1930's. Although he was originally heading for Texas, he settled in New
Harmony, Indiana, where he practiced his medical profession and also painted a few portraits in watercolor. He was nearly 100 years old when he died. |
