LEYDENDECKER, Joseph Christian (1874-1951), born in Germany. Leydendecker immigrated
with his parents and brother Frank Xavier to the United States in 1882. Joseph began art education at Chicago Art Institute. In 1894 he made the illustration for "The Bible" published by
Manz. Together with his brother he studied in Paris in 1896. Returned to Chicago, produced covers for Colliers and Saturday Evening Post. 1900 moved to New York City, from then on made many advertising
posters. |
