	KURZ, Friedrich Rudolf (1818-1871), born in Bern, Switzerland. Portrait, animal and landscape painter, teacher. Studied art in Bern. He was in the United States from 1846 to 1852 traveling and sketching along the Mississippi and upper Missouri River from New Orleans to St. Louis and Port Union.
