BOETTICHER, Otto (circa 1816-?), probably born in Prussia, served in the Prussian Army before he came
to America circa 1850. From 1851 to 1858 he had a studio in New York as a military artist and lithographer. In 1851 he joined Charles Gildemeister, another German immigrant as a partner in a lithographic
business. They produced many lithographs on military subjects. From 1861-1864 Boetticher was an army officer and distinguished himself during the Civil War. He was taken prisoner and made a well-known
drawing of prisoners playing a baseball game. |
