BODMER, Charles Karl (1809-1893), born at Riesbach, Switzerland. He was a painter and engraver,
came to America as artist recorder for Maximilian, Prince of Wied, accompanied the Prince on a tour of the United States visiting Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,
Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota and Montana. Maximilian's "Travels in the Interior of North America, 1832-1834" was illustrated with 81 engravings, made from Bodmer's drawings. |
